Russia Ukraine News: Russia may attack Ukraine during Olympics
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Friday that
Russia could attack Ukraine during the ongoing Winter Olympics in Beijing and
that American citizens should leave the Eastern European country immediately.
Blinken did not elaborate on the reasons behind the latest security alert from
the State Department. "Simply put, we are seeing worrying signs of
escalating tensions from the Russian side, including the arrival of new forces
on the Ukrainian border," Blinken said in Melbourne, Australia.
The US Secretary of State said, "We are at a point
where the attack can start at any time, and obviously this includes the time of
the Olympics." The Olympic Games are to end on February 20. Russia has
gathered more than a million troops near Ukraine and says it has no intention
of attacking, but wants Western Ukraine and former Soviet countries out of the
North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Keep it
'The alliance between Russia and China is worrying'
In this meeting between the foreign ministers of India,
Japan, Australia and the US, the issue of attack on Ukraine and deepening
relations between Russia and China was shadowed in this meeting, chaired by
Australian Foreign Minister Morris Payne. He said the alliance between Russia
and China "is worrying because it does not reflect a global order that
favors aspirations for independence, openness, sovereignty and territorial
integrity." Blinken had earlier said China in the Indo-Pacific.
Confrontation cannot be avoided.
Blinken will also go on a trip to Fiji
Blinken's visit is aimed at bolstering US interests in Asia
and countering China's growing aggression in the region. He will also visit
Fiji and discuss serious concerns related to North Korea with his Japanese and
South Korean counterparts in Hawaii. China has territorial disputes with
several countries in the strategically important Indo-Pacific region and has
been opposing the Quad alliance since its inception.
